The word "keep" has a rich etymology. It comes from the Old English word "ceapan," which means "to promise" or "to covenant." This sense of making a promise or agreement is still seen in modern uses of the word, such as "keeping a promise" or "keeping a secret." However, the word "keep" also has a more physical sense, related to holding or possessing something.
