The word "trustee" originates from the Old French word "truster," meaning "to trust" or "to believe." It evolved through Middle English, where "trustee" referred to someone entrusted with something, often property. The concept of a trustee, however, has roots in Roman law, where a "tutor" was appointed to manage the affairs of a minor. This concept of someone responsible for managing assets for another's benefit developed into the modern trustee, who holds assets in trust for the benefit of beneficiaries.
