/ˈsmuːði//ˈsmuːði/

The word "smoothie" originated in the United States in the 1970s. The term is attributed to Steven Kuhnau, an entrepreneur who opened a juice bar in Los Angeles called "The Smoothie King" in 1973. Kuhnau coined the term "smoothie" to describe a blend of fruit juice and ice cream, which he served to his customers. Initially, the term "smoothie" referred specifically to the blended drinks served at Kuhnau's bar. Over time, however, the term gained popularity and began to be used more broadly to describe a wide range of blended drinks, including those containing yogurt, milk, and other ingredients. Today, the word "smoothie" is recognized globally and is used to describe a popular type of beverage that is both nutritious and delicious.
