The term "paradox" is derived from two Greek words, "para" meaning "against" and "doxa" meaning "opinion" or "belief". Put together, "paradox" literally translates to "contradiction to common belief". The origin of the word can be traced back to ancient Greek philosophy, particularly the works of the philosopher Zeno of Elea. Zeno proposed logical paradoxes, named "Zeno's Paradoxes", which appeared contradictory and defied common beliefs. For instance, his most famous paradox, the "Achilles and the Tortoise", argued that because ultimately Achilles would never catch up with the slow-moving tortoise due to the infinite distances between them, motion itself was impossible.
