The word "wrong" has its roots in Old English and Germanic languages. The earliest recorded use of the word "wrong" dates back to around 725 AD, during the Anglo-Saxon period. The Old English word "wrang" or "wrangian" means "to twist" or "to bend", and was often used to describe something that was distorted or corrupted. Over time, the spelling and meaning of the word evolved. In Middle English (circa 1100-1500 AD), "wrong" began to take on a sense of "being in contrast to what is right or correct". This sense of moral or ethical incorrectness is still the core meaning of the word today. Despite its shift in meaning, the word "wrong" still retains a connection to its Old English roots, with the concept of "twisting" or "deviating" from a norm or standard.
