Definition of television

The word "television" was coined by John Logie Baird, a Scottish engineer, in 1926. Baird was one of the first people to transmit live, moving images using a system of mechanical scanning. He combined the Greek words "tele," meaning far or distant, and "vision," meaning sight, to create the term "television." The word was initially used to describe the technology of transmitting images over long distances, and it slowly gained popularity as the technology developed. The first formal use of the term "television" was at a press conference on January 26, 1926, where Baird demonstrated his mechanical television system.
