The word "rose" has a rich history! The earliest recorded use of the word "rose" dates back to the 14th century. It comes from the Old English word "rōse," which was derived from the Proto-Germanic word "*ruhsiz." This Proto-Germanic word is also thought to have been influenced by the Latin word "rosa," meaning "bloom" or "flower." The Latin "rosa" was itself derived from the Greek word "रोड़ός" (rhódos), meaning "rose." The Greek word is believed to have been derived from the city of Rhodes, which was home to a famous garden filled with beautiful roses. Over time, the spelling of the word evolved into its modern form, "rose," and has come to refer not only to the flower but also to the color and even a person's cheek.
