1. Black Sheep of the Family: Con cừu đen của gia đình

Khi ai đó được gọi là “Black sheep of the family”, nghĩa là, thể hiện sự khác biệt trong tính cách, hành động, cư xử giữa họ với các thành viên còn lại trong gia đình.

2. It Runs in the Family: Di truyền trong gia đình

Khi một thứ gì đó “Runs in the family” nghĩa là đặc điểm nhận dạng hoặc tính cách giống nhau mà tất cả các thành viên trong gia đình đều có.

Ví dụ:

  • Harry is very tall, but everyone in his family is tall. It runs in the family.

Ví dụ:

Ví dụ:

  • You had better pay more attention to your family and relative than neighbor. Because blood is thicker than water.

10. Like two peas in the same pot: Anh em giống nhau

Ví dụ:

  • The twins like two peas in the same pot, I can’t tell them apart though I meet them everyday at class.

Ví dụ:

14. Apple doesn’t fall far from tree: Con nhà tông, không giống lông cũng giống cánh

Ví dụ:

  • This year, he has just won the 1st prize in Math Competition. He studied so well, just as his father. You know that, apple doesn’t fall far from tree.

15. Until the cow comes home: Rất muộn

Ví dụ: 

  • I regret what I have done in the past, hung out all day with bad guys, stole money to play game and went home until the cow comes home. That makes my parents worried a lot.

Ví dụ:

  •  My 2-year old little brother is the apple of parent’s eyes, he’s take after my father a lot.

Ví dụ:

18. Air one’s dirty laundry in public: Vạch áo cho người xem lưng

Ví dụ:

  • My mom acts so sensibly, whenever I do anything wrong, she just helps me to fix it right away, not yells at me in front of people. She doesn’t want to air my dirty laundry in public.

19. Like father, like son: Giống hệt nhau

Ví dụ:

  • My dad and my brother is like father like son, they match each other in every aspect.

20. Cleanliness is next to godliness: Nhà sạch thì mát, bát sạch ngon cơm

Ví dụ:

  • My mom take care for home very well, she thinks that cleanliness is next to godliness
