English learning methods for infants

You can learn English from grade 1, but until your college years, you still cannot communicate well in English.

Even our English communication level is not as good as that of three-year-old foreign children. They learn English without awareness, their ability to concentrate is not as good as ours, their desire to learn English is not as strong as ours, so why can they communicate in English so quickly?

Understanding this, experts of EnglishTop always trying to research, analyze, and explain why those children can achieve such abilities. We finally found a method that not only foreign children but also Vietnamese children apply. So to apply these methods, what do you need to do?

1. Listen to a lot of English - Effective method of learning English

The first thing these children do in their early years is to listen a lot. Their parents often talk to them in English, pet them in English, and play with them in English. They listen to those words every day, even though they don't understand anything, they still hear every word. Not only do they listen to their parents, they also let their parents listen to children's songs in English that enrich their imagination and stimulate their thinking.

2. What are the results? - Effective method for learning English

Gradually, they begin to form necessary language reflexes in communication. It seems that these children are unaware of the complex grammar theory that we often learn in English. They only rely on the contexts in communication and apply the exact same statement to that context. That's why when children are about 1 to 2 years old, they only repeat the same sentence over and over again in a certain and relevant context. Because they still need time to learn different ways of expressing themselves in each situation when communicating.

3. Study with foreigners

Of course, like these kids, listen to a lot of English. The more you listen, the better, and in this story there is no limit to how much is enough. If possible, go to places where you can communicate in English with foreigners, where you can interact in English, thus becoming active and no longer passive. Even if we don't understand anything, we still listen, and let's practice having a "thick skin" a little.

Simply when we talk to foreigners, it is an insult to them when we do not understand what they want to convey. If you feel like you can't be "thick-faced", before the conversation with them, say something like this: "I'm not really good in English and I want to improve it. So let’s just take it easy, please.” (I'm not very good at English and want to improve it, so let's just calm down and talk). Hearing this sentence, obviously they will sympathize with us a little and that is when you can completely feel "wrong" or not understand without fear of anyone laughing.

4. What if there are no foreigners to study?

However, if you don't have such a wonderful environment, what is the solution for you? It's very simple:  Listen to English on the radio, YouTube, and TV a lot. Although you won't be able to learn in a two-way method like communicating with outsiders, in return, you will have many images to imagine. The important thing in English is GUESSING. Babies learning their native language do the same thing. When they guess, they will link together images and words that they think are similar. Whether right or wrong, they will still imprint what they think is right in their minds. Even if they guess wrong, those mistakes will be "overwritten" on their old knowledge, so they can still communicate well in English.

You need to be like that too. Whether you are right or wrong, practice guessing what you hear through illustrations. Then, look up the dictionary to see if what you guessed is correct or not. This is where we differ from children. They learn English unconsciously, so it will take more time than us. Adults learn English with a strong desire to communicate well, so you still need to find ways to speed up learning based on children's methods.
