Questions

1. Introduction

This is a simple game to practice question types in English. The purpose is to help students practice the correct use of question words, specifically: "What", "When", "Where", "Who", "How", "Do", "Is", " Are", "Can", "Does" and "Would".

The game has 3 parts. The first part aims to practice different question words in a clear context. You are presented with an image to indicate the meaning and an incomplete sentence. You must click on one of the 5 words to complete the phrase. The second part aims to strengthen the connection between meaning and question type. You are presented with a full question and then have to click on the matching image. The third section shows the answers to the questions. You are showing different questions and then have to move the answers to match.

The second and third parts include a countdown timer; The purpose of this is to add excitement or challenge to the game. My concern here is that without a timer, students might find the game boring. If you don't like the timer, you can remove it by clicking the settings button at the bottom left.

In this game, hopefully, learning will take place through exposure and use of question language. Students will use language in the context of the questions and answers. In doing so, I hope that this strengthens the connection between question meaning and language.

There are 2 difficulty levels to choose from - easy and hard. There isn't much difference between them, but they use different content. Each level has 5 sets of 8 questions and also all sets can be used by clicking "all". These sets cover a range or types of questions: each type usually has a question that begins with each of the following sentences "What", "When", "Where", "Who" and "How". Then, 3 questions begin with any of the following words "Do", "Is", "Are", "Can", "Does" and "would". There is some difficulty progression as you move through the new levels, but it's usually about the easy questions in the beginning.
