Clothes

1. Introduction

This is a small game to practice English. The content is clothing-related vocabulary, with target phrases such as he is wearing a hat or she is wearing a dress. The language is quite simple and so this game is really geared towards beginners or young children. I tried to include some more unusual items, such as mittens and baseball cap, but overall the language is very simple - "pants", "T-shirt", "shoes", "coat".

To play, you simply read the sentence and then drag and drop the correct clothing items onto the correct person. So if the target phrase is He is wearing a jacket, then you have to move the jacket image above the man. Sometimes the colors included make the instructions more specific - in the winter scene both are wearing coats and so a difference by color is necessary.

Before each level, there is a preview screen in which you can review or double check the vocabulary items to be used. Hopefully the user can learn or review any new or less familiar items before starting the game. Then once the game starts seeing and moving the clothes in context can reinforce the meaning of the words.

To try and make the game more interesting, a timer was added to create a challenge element. The timer will get faster as you progress, especially if you complete sets quickly. While some people don't like this, I think it's helpful to maintain engagement and encourage replay. There is also a score system and high score screens to encourage competition. To get a really high score, you need to finish the first set of content quickly. If you do this, then 3 golden circles will appear next to the score box. Then the number of points you get for each correct item will increase; the timer runs much faster though.

There are 7 sets of content in total and each has a different theme - Summer, Winter, Spring, Students, Formal, Casual and Beach. I have tried to make them as comprehensive as possible so that they cover a wide range of clothing.
