Learning vocabulary is a headache for most foreign language learners, specifically English.
To fluently use a language to communicate and work, you must have a vocabulary of over 3,000 words. So how to overcome difficulties when learning vocabulary? Don't worry, vocabulary is just a small thing!
A common mistake made by many English learners today is memorizing a lot of words every day but not learning them clearly or understanding them thoroughly, leading to the fact that even though they have learned them, they don't know how to use them when needed.
When learning vocabulary, put it in a certain context and read it over and over again, practice making sentences for it. Learn new words regularly and qualitatively every day. Don't just learn the meaning and types of words, but also learn how to use them. Otherwise, you will just "learn it by rote" and not be able to use it properly.
Vocabulary – just a small thing
Learn vocabulary according to topics you are interested in. You will feel more motivated. For example, if you love fashion, learn vocabulary related to this field. Or are you interested in economics, the currency vocabulary will surely inspire you. Every day, read articles, stories and learn vocabulary about the field you love. And list out new word lists in that context. Every day you will often see it again and again and it will gradually enter your memory clearly and thoroughly.
Every time you learn a new word, explain it in both English and Vietnamese ways. You should explain the new word in an English sentence and put it in context yourself. Or you can use an English - English dictionary to help. This way, you will understand the word better and also know how to use it correctly.
Learning vocabulary will be completely meaningless if you don't know how to pronounce it or pronounce it incorrectly. Please pronounce It's loud so you can correct your pronunciation and remember vocabulary longer. Correct pronunciation is very good support for both listening skills and memory skills. Therefore, you will remember vocabulary much faster than when only learning on paper.
Vocabulary – just a small thing
Vocabulary will be remembered best when you use it a lot. Use vocabulary anytime, anywhere. Whenever you make a sentence, write an essay or communicate. Try to consciously "insert" new words into your life as often as possible. There is no need to learn too many new words, but no matter how much you learn, you must be able to use them!
Good luck!
